XPilot5 Installation - OpenAL | May l, 2004 |
These are the instructions to help you bring OpenAL to your box. This is just a convenience. The full monty can be found at
OpenAL is an XPilot5 optional component that provides client side audio support. If you want to hear beeps and booms, you should install this.
Windows | users should just download and execute the
Windows binary distribution. Developers should instead install the OpenAL SDK. After installing the SDK, you must add these paths to your VC++ build environment (Tools / Options / Directories) Include Files: C:\Program Files\OpenAL 1.0 Software Development Kit\Include Library Files: C:\Program Files\OpenAL 1.0 Software Development Kit\libs |
Linux | users must build OpenAL. This has to be done as root, so it installs itself
into /usr/local. Instructions to do this are at the OpenAL download page If you choose not to install OpenAL, XPilot5's configure will figure this out and build without client sound support. The OpenAL download page says that you may already have OpenAL installed, but i haven't seen it on any of my boxen. |
