BuckoSoft XPilotNT-server HOWTO | May 30, 1997 |
Here are some notes to help you run your own server.
- When you first launch the server, you can just press the
Start Server
button. This will give you reasonable defaults. The text status area should display this:Copyright © 1991-1997 by Bjørn Stabell, Ken Ronny Schouten & Bert Gijsbers. - If it takes a long time to display the
Locating Meta
line, then you will need to turn off thereportMeta
option. - After the text message "
Server runs at 12 frames per second
" appears, the server is ready to accept connections. - Press the
Stop Server
button before exiting XPilot-server. This allows the program to graciously return network resources to the system. - After pressing
Stop Server
, you must exit and restart XPilot-server in order to run the server again. This restriction should go away in a future version.
- The
Configure
button on the main dialog brings up this window. Here you may enter any options for the server. - Note that these options are only read when you press the
Start Server
button. - The
ServerOpts.txt
file lists all of the options available. You may access this file from the XPilot menu, it is under the Doc folder. Here, i have told the server- Not to report to the metaserver.
- Have 3 robot players.
- Run the map "fuzz2"
- You can select a map from one of the maps in the
C:\XPilot\lib\maps
directory. The XPilot Home Page lists places to get other maps. - The maps are flat ASCII text and can be viewed/edited with your favorite text editor.
- There is a lovely Unix tool for creating maps. A Windows version is in the conceptual stage. If anyone would like to take on writing a Java based map editor, please contact me.
